This year we have given the conservatory a make-over, with a new roof and back door, and external and interior renovation and decoration. We have replaced the microwave oven, and installed a new washing machine and separate dryer.
BBC Springwatch returns to Minsmere in spring 2015 to enthral viewers with a behind-the-scenes look at some of the wildlife – and landscapes – that can be enjoyed here. A highlight last year was a close-up view of nesting bitterns. Their eerie booming can be heard clearly from the cottage – so why not book Drift End Cottage so you can hear, and see, for yourselves! Our beautiful barn owls continue to quarter the meadow behind the cottage, and marsh harriers hover overhead.
The Eel’s Foot Inn, 2 minutes’ walk from the cottage, continues to upgrade the garden and the bar and dining areas – and now boasts six petanque pistes! Why not borrow our boules and have a game and a pint! And don’t forget the pub’s ‘squit night’ on a Thursday, when local musicians gather to play and sing.
Classical music reigns supreme at Aldeburgh, not just at the June festival but throughout the year, when world-class musicians are a very short drive away from the cottage.
A few of our guests have chosen to leave the car at home and travel by train to Saxmundham. Order groceries online, and Waitrose will deliver your shopping to your door. There is an on-demand bus service, Suffolk Link, for local trips.
