Birdwatching at Minsmere RSPB & other local Suffolk sites

If you are birdwatchers, you are in for a real treat here! We back onto the edge of the famous RSPB reserve at Minsmere. In summer, the booming of Bitterns can be heard and Barn Owls and Marsh Harriers are regularly seen from the cottage garden.
Minsmere offers a wide range of habitats and consequently, a high number of species can be seen. Nature trails take you through woodland, heathland and reedbeds, to comfortable hides and to the beach. The area is also excellent at all times of the year. Summer brings a great range of breeding birds, spring and autumn migration always produce scarce and rare visitors and winter brings a host of wildfowl, raptors and offshore seabirds.
Bordering onto the northern end of Minsmere is Dunwich Heath, which is run by the National Trust and is home to typical heathland birds including the rare Dartford Warbler.
A few miles further north, Blythburgh estuary offer more wetland birds and the odd Osprey is sometimes present during spring. The estuary is also excellent for scarce gull species.
